Many people find themselves needing to explore feelings to heal from life changes, life stressors, loss of a loved one or traumatic experiences.

Art Therapy is a form of expressive therapy that uses the creative process of making art to improve a person’s physical, mental and emotional well-being.  The creative process can help people resolve issues as well as develop and manage their behaviors and feelings, reduce stress and improve self-esteem and awareness.

I work with children, youth, and adults. I specialize in healing from trauma and abuse. I have worked for over 25 years with families to overcome the effects of domestic/relationship abuse through a psychoeducational approach and an empowerment model. I encourage clients to explore feelings, build healthy family relationships and develop self-respect. I guide my clients through the creative process for self-expression, self-discovery and healing. I believe in the power of creativity and the importance of self-care practices for healing.

I am a visual artist and use art making to keep myself grounded and balanced. I also tend to the earth through pollinator gardening and care for the animals at Randy's Rescue Ranch. I donate my art for social justice projects and I am on the board of Children First Foundation, Child Death Review Team, and St. Clair County Mental Health Disaster Response Team.

For many, it takes courage to begin the counseling process, but by addressing the issues that have caused you pain, you can rise above these issues, and discover your personal joy potential.  We as humans have unlimited capacity to heal ourselves, despite the pain we’ve suffered.

My approach integrates psychodynamic psychotherapy with other modalities, in which I’ve been trained, depending on the needs of the client.  I believe the most important factors leading to positive change in therapy are the client’s motivation and a positive collaborative, and professional working relationship, in which the client can feel accepted, supported, and understood.

It is my belief that all individuals - no matter how troubling their circumstances and situations, have the inherent potential for healing and growth and the capacity to enjoy a more fulfilling life. While I am versed on the effects of trauma or victimization on one’s mental well-being, I strongly believe that with effective counseling, individuals can become more resilient, healthier, and happier. Whether you are grappling with self- esteem issues, unfulfilling/troubled personal relationships, or residual effects from past traumas, your healing begins with YOU!

As a seasoned Clinician, I recognize the importance and therapeutic value of providing a safe, non-judgmental, and confidential environment where unconditional regard and sound clinical practice are cornerstone. I employ a very client-centered, strength based approach with all clients.

Seeking help can be challenging, but it doesn’t have to be. I use a person-centered, dialectical/cognitive behavioral, strength’s-based, trauma-informed approach in working to build rapport with my clients to allow them the space to feel safe and judgment-free. I strive for a culturally inclusive space that welcomes all individuals yet recognizes how an individual’s identity intersects with many facets of our lives.

At my previous position at a family therapy private practice, I worked with wide range of ages and interned doing play therapy and working with Internal Family Systems. I also held a weekly group for LGBTQ+ individuals to navigate the steps of social and medical transition and to have a safe space to be supported.

I am passionate with working with teens and helping them transition into the sometimes-unpredictable/scary stage of adulthood. I also have a passion for working with adults who have experienced family trauma and helping them unlearn messages that they have carried from their childhood. With working with these adults, I strive to give them their strength and power back with helping them break the pattern of generational trauma.

I have been trained in the first step of EMDR and I am in the process of being fully certified to be able to continue to help clients with trauma to reduce their psychological stress. I am certified in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Personality Disorders and strive to end the stigma related to these disorders and separate the person from the diagnosis.

I can help you navigate issues related to anxiety, depression, bipolar, trauma, life transitions, gender dysphoria, etc. and will use a variety of therapy modalities to fit your needs and help you succeed. I believe in respect, empowerment, and inclusion and look forward to working with you and your specific needs.
